Back to the city again, and it always takes a bit of getting used to how big places can be! After a pretty good nights sleep we woke up nice and early and headed off to see the sights...on foot! (ended up walking about 12kms in total!) We walked straight up George St, which took us to the harbour bridge through The Rocks which is a really old area of the city, but it's really pretty around there. To climb the bridge costs around $130, which was a little out of our budget, but on either edge of the bridge are some granite towers, and one of them has been turned into a museum with a lookout on it-this cost $4, guess which one we chose! The view from the top was amazing, it was a beautiful sunny day and you could see for miles-in fact we got a bit snap happy i'm afraid, so when we get home there'll be planty of photo's to bore you all with!! After we'd looked at the bridge, we walked around to the Opera House, which it turns out is tiled and craem coloured rather than white, and actually three seperate buildings
01-The Opera House
! Anyway, it was pretty cool, so again we took far too many photos of it!! Then, we decided to walk around the edge of the botanic gardens and up to Lady Macquries chair to get the best shot of the bridge and the Opera house in one photo-we got about half way and then there was an obstacle in our way, so we decided that we had a pretty good shot and just walked back through the gardens. The we phoned up the Observatory and made a booking for that night to go and have a guided tour, and to look at the stars through a massive telescope-luckily they had two spaces left, so we snapped them up!! Then we walked back to the Hostel to have a quick nap before we went out again! On our way to the Observatory we popped into a place called 'The Slip Inn' where they serve steak and mash for $5, it was delicious!! Then we struggled to find the observaory, but once we got there it was amazing, apparently it's one of the oldest buildings in Sydney and used to be an old hospital. They show you a 3D film about Mars, and all of the stuff they've found up there, and then they take you up to look through the telescopes. We saw loads of stars, and got to look at the nebula on Orions belt through this brad new telescope. Then they moved to us to the observatory next door which houses the oldest telescope still in operation-think it's about 180 years old, and we got to look at mars through it. It's all very cool to be honest. After the tour was over we headed back to the hostel, and got a good nights sleep before another busy day
02-The Bridge
! We checked out nice and ear;y the next day and caught the monorail down to Darling Harbour, which is where the Sydney Aquarium is. I know, another aqaurium! But this one is the best! Think it's the biggest in Austraia, and everything it houses can only be found in Australian waters. (I've included a few photos of some you might recognise!) They have three massive tanks, which are sunk into the harbour an one of them is full of Sharks and Stingrays, you walk through these underwater tunnels and they are swimming all around you. we managed to time our visit with feeding time so we saw loads of activity which was prtty cool! Then it was time for us to leave, and catch our last greyhound to the airport where we were headed to New Zealand. Just to be prepared, we got there nice and early and checked in without a hitch. However, our flight was late getting into the airport and we didn't board it until about half an hour after we were supposed to. Then, once we were on board all of the airports baggage carosels broke down and we had to wait another 3/4 of an houror so till it was fixed and they could get us onto the runway! Fantastic, and to top it all of the flight was full of families with small children, so they were all really grumpy! We were more than happy to be getting off of the other end!!!
