Up very early and checked out to get the 08.30am bus to PP. Very nice – we got picked up from the hotel , took us in a mini-bus to the coach – I say coach probably a 40 seater…
Once on the coach we got a sandwich, cake and bottle water – all inc the price. Water and cake ok – sandwich horrid!
The journey was ok actually I managed to dose for most of it - little bit of a headache hee hee We stopped half way for a 10 minute break – where after toilet stops we bought fruit and more water.
When I wasn’t dosing it was nice seeing the Cambodian countryside – it’s so lush and green absolutely beautiful. I don’t quite know what to make of it after all it’s a very poor country but looking at the countryside it doesn’t look poor at all – I suppose when you think of a poor country you think of dry barren landscapes – well I do.

We eventually arrived in PHNOM PENH at about 02.30pm. We got off the bus and ignoring all the taxi drivers around us we managed to get our bearings and made our way to the hotel which wasn’t that far from where we got dropped off – walking along the waterfront.
Once we got booked in and dropped our bags off we went back to reception and the guy behind the desk took us to a ticket booth about 30 seconds walk from the hotel so we could get our tickets to HCMC ($13each ticket) I think he fancied the girl in the booth. Had a quick look around the street near our hotel and went to get something to eat – was horrible! I have no idea what it was – some stew thing with salad – eeeuwwwwwww! I feel proper sick now. This is not good – we have a busy day and I really want to be well so I can enjoy it.
Oh we did manage to find apple pie – in El Mundo next to our hotel – mmm with vanilla ice-cream. Now it was nice but it was in-fact crumble and I don’t know how high on the list it will be - I think after Zorbas in Cyprus but not up with the German Bakery in Jaisalmer ! Not a good show Cambodia!!! Ha ha

After sorting out our laundry we went back up to the room and we are now sat on the balcony watching life on the river in front of us. Looking at the LP map I’m amazed, we have the TON LE SAP river in front of us and merging in from the right is the MEKONG. There are a few junks going up and down but not many, its mainly boats taking tourists on trips. On the waterfront itself stalls are setting up for evening meals…
We need to get onto the internet and look at hotels for HCMC and PHU QUOC, and I think we need to do it now! Although at the moment I really can’t be bothered moving I’m enjoying watching the world go by. We did finally have a look at some hotels and are now just waiting to see if there are rooms available.

This evening we went to the FCC for a drink and then PLACE ON THE CORNER for another. DK had pizza whilst people watching, I couldn’t be bothered. The FCC here feels more atmospheric then the FCC in Siem Reap – you can still see the bullet holes from the invasion…I I liked it there, id heard so much about it so it was good to experience first hand. Back in the room we watched crap tv chilling out and at some tamarind sweets we bought in Siem Reap. They looked like fizzy cola bottles but when you bit into them they still had the pips inside. And they were chilli hot also!! We sat with a bin between us spitting the pips out – CLASSY!
Anyway bed now G’nite – busy day tomorrow!!!
