Horses and stuff

I booked into Jerez thinking that it would be a useful launchpad for visits to its larger coastal cousin Cadiz, which was full, but I never actually got out of the city. Jerez is in the heart of the sherry triangle in Spain so I took a tour of one of the largest sherry bodegas in the area - Gonzalez Byass. (The oldies who enjoy their naughty tipple of sherry every Sunday will recognise the name of Tio Pepe.) I saw my first flamenco show and also managed to squeeze in an equestrian show, which was probably the highlight of my stay there. The equestrian school is the centre for the breeding and training of the Andalucian lineage and they put on a great show. They had the horses doing synchronised performances, piroutettes, hopping on their hind legs, jumping in the air and kicking their back legs out, etc. Jaw dropping stuff for those who, like me, find trotting on a horse the crotch equivalent of sitting on a jackhammer.
