I strongly feel that if a person is traveling in the U.S. they should try to at least learn enough of the language to get them the things they need......that being said, I have been working so hard trying to learn Scots Gaelic. Not an easy task..... I have a program that allows me to see the words, hear the words and speak the words back. Great program!! How ever, every time I hear myself try to pronounce these "sounds" I simply sit and laugh at myself!!!!

It would maybe be a bit easier if I had someone to practice with, but alas I don't have that.....So I am working on simply the basics.....Hello, how are you? I am well, Please, Thank You, Good bye. That's what I can understand and say so far. Really, it has taken me 3 months to learn that much fluently.....Working with a language that only has 18 letters in their alphabet, and the sounds! Oh, the sounds.....some consonants are only breathes of air, vowel sounds are nothing even close to the English Language....rolling Rs in the middle of a word.....with only a double roll, some with a long roll.....but looking at the word does not tell you how it is rolled, hahaha, it is spelled with only a single R.

Ceithir, is the word for the number "four".....yea, you see how that word is spelled??? Well, it is pronounced ka-HERE.   So you see, looking at the word and saying the word is quite the challenge....but I will keep trying......I really, really want to be able to do this!!! In the meantime, if any one wants to practice with me....well, let's just say at my age, studying alone is a major task and I would take any help I could get....you see I am running out of learning time. I leave in one week!!!
