3rd, 4th and 5th July 2000 Montibenici
Entry 68 of 81 | show all | print this entry |
Monday 3rd July 2000 We decided to walk the 500 metres into town for bread and some fruit and veg. Surprise, surprise, it isn't realy a town or a village. People live in a wonderfull cluster of medieval stone houses on the top of the hill, but there isn't a single shop of any description. A bread van delivers every afternoon. Given the nature of Italian bread, I can only imagine how stale and hard it must be by then. We decided on the 15 min. drive to Bucine instead. A reasonable size supermarketo has most supplies we need, and a bakery on the hill at the top of town as we drive in.
Monti Benichi is built around two castles on the top of the hill, and one of those has already been restored as a hotel. Rooms at L400,000-L500,000 per night. Later in the week, I saw inside, and understand why.
Tuesday 4th July 2000 Diarized all day
Wednesday 5th July 2000 Diarized all day, again.
