Saturday 1st July 2000

What to say about a day in transit, driving from Venice to Montibenici in central Tuscany, at the southern most region of Chianti.

We started with an early morning tour of the rurrounding streets, and to St Marks to say goodbye. I took a great photograph of the rising sun in blinding light through the archway into the square, with rubbish bins clustered in the foreground, and the Doges Palace walls in the background.

At the dock we helped an American girl traveling alone and in Venice for the weekend. She had hopped off at the Zatterre stop by mistake, instead of St Marks, and without a map, had no idea where she or anything else was. We gave her instructons and sent her over the Academia Bridge, We had a chat with another couple from New Jersey on the ferry.

Drove to Florence and discovered that our problem with the autostrada through the mountains is either not cambered, or worse still, cambered the wrong way.

Stopped at Montevarchi at an Ipercoop (supermarketo). This was more like a coles/kmart store. Stocked up to get through the weekend as we had been advised that every shop within a bulls roar of Montebenichi would be closed for the weekend.

Arrived at the farm mid afternoon, after a five hour trip in total. Not a bad run. We were initially shocked at how small our apartment was, and that the bed was a fold out job, but got used it after a few days.
