It was actually a trip coming back on a city bus one evening after visiting with our friends from Portland that put the Holiday season on the map... well sort of... The local bus was all decked with blue LED Christmas lights, blue satin curtains that fluttered in the breeze, and a display of garland, x-mas cards, and small pinatas on the wall over the driver's head. In the background was some sort of new age trance music. Festive...???!!! Interpretive Christmas at it's best.
Anyway, there is still time to get into the spirit. Tonight, we will bake and decorate gingerbread cookies and then try to find a Mexican Christmas Eve church service. Tomorrow we are thinking about inviting some of the other cruisers over for a potluck dinner of some sort.
We have found some wonderful places to eat, both local as well as a bit more on the tourist end of things - all very reasonable. Our Spanish is slowly getting better and we are begining to understand and respond back to a waiter without reverting to English.
The boat is continuing to do well except for the expected hiccups - Craig drew the short straw and had to replace a macerator pump on the holding tank yesterday. Yesterday was also haircut day and Craig's hair got a bit, no, a lot shorter than expected - I was cutting it and the guide was closer than expected and he has a "stylish" short crew cut. It is a look and it will grow out eventually.
We're planning on hanging out here in Zihuatanajo at least through New Year's and then will start our migration back north. We have a friend coming in from Atlanta the last week in January. Therefore, we will meet him Bahia Navidad (along Mexico's gold coast, south of Puerta Vallarta.) Depending on our timing, we are thinking about finding a dog sitter for a few days, leaving the boat, renting a car, and heading inland to Morelia to see an area where monarch butterflies are known to migrate in the millions to in the winter months.
To all of our friends and famiy out there...happy holidays!!!!
We think of you and miss you - especially at this time if the year.
