Took the 15 baht (that's about 50 pence) train journey up to Ayuthuya, which is supposedly a quiet cultural city just an hour and a half outside of the capital. Checked into a little guesthouse called PU Guesthouse, and in the end I found out where it got it's name from: on the day I was leaving, the Thai lady at reception said "Oh, you going? You so handsome, can I come with you?". "Of course you can", I said, but we just ended up exchanging email addresses, and it was then that I was told that she was in fact "PU" herself. I'll hopefully be able to get a discount or something (probably the latter) next time I drop by...

Shame on me for mostly just lazying about, trying to get through "The Snow Leopard", a terrible mountain climbing slash buddhist adventure which I picked up when in Nepal, then putting on my running shoes and doing a circuit around the island (that's a fairly enjoyable 8 km lap). The only sights I really ended up seeing were during the boat trip around the island together with Tom, a Dutch guy, but my excuse is that I'm saving myself culturewise for the trip to Myanmar at the end of the month.

Besides, I've got my good friend Noam coming over soon and he's a bit of a culture vulture (well, in Italy he was able to appreciate the talents of a number of high profile international artistes...).
