Dorien had only one wish when coming to India, and that was to see the Taj Mahal. And to think we nearly missed out! Remembering the fact that the Taj closes to have an army of dusters have a cleaning session, we thought we were pretty safe being there on the Wednesday and Thursday. But if we hadn't been visited straight away we probably  would have missed out. It turned out that on the Thursday, a number of VIP politicians from some Southeast Asian states had turned up, and they'd decided to lock up the Taj completely for the afternoon. We only noticed this when we got up from our lunch at the Oberoi and we're prevented from leaving as the VIPs could be returning any second. Obviously, this didn't go down all too well with me, so I did a "obnoxious tourist" and before you could say "you're free!", we were free.

Unfortunately there was also a group of army officers with a stricter adherence to commands, and guns as well, so no more "obnoxious tourist", more "compliant tourist" and the start to a two hour wait before the pesky VIP's finally decided to give in and head back to the Oberoi. Probably quite a few tourists were very upset that day.
