Monday was spent as a chilling day mostly on the lovely Karon beach with a mixture of sun bathing and relaxing with a few Changs at a beach side bar. Weather once again was amazing, high 30's and very sunny, too hot to sit out in for long periods, I don't think I have sweated so much as i have done on this trip, the sun has certainly followed me.
The whole of the Western side of Phuket is magnificent beach and development along this coast has been rapid and not really to my taste as it's a bit touristy but Karon was a nice place to be as it was a bit quieter than noisy Patong just north up the cost. The beaches, water and scenery though are lovely, prob the clearest and warmest waters I have seen !
I wanted to see nearby Phangnga Bay which is just north of Phuket island for a couple of reasons, stunning limestone stacks rising out of the ocean, on a smaller scale to Halong Bay and home to James Bond Island :-), well that's what they call Ko Khao Phing since it was used for scenes in 'The Man with the golden gun'. It was actually Scaramanger's island and the characteristic stack in the bay which is called nail island.
I decided to do a cheapish option and do an afternoon twilight tour which sailed through the bay stopping off first at beautiful Panyi fishing village first for lunch and then moving on to James Bond Island just before sunset. It was quite surreal stepping onto the beach that Roger Moore once did and everything looked just how it did in the film, apart from the souvenir stands behind the beach, oh I hate that sort of thing, really spoils things.
After the island we headed back through a heavy storm to the mainland and a coach back to the hotel, a very enjoyable afternoon was had !.
Taking the boat to lovely Phi Phi island tomorrow which will be my base for 5 days of chilling and hanging out, really looking forward to exploring the island, it is supposed to be spectacular.
