Where I stayed
No laid on 4x4 ride today to higher ground so I had to brave the flood waters and get me Teva's wet. The main road a few blocks away runs parallel and close to the river so was particularly bad there. Many of the shop keepers have erected make shift flood defences and they vary alot in adequacy from single concrete block walls with piers and rendered with motor to sandbags, sacks of rice to the bottom end of the scale a line of suitcases in front of a shutter door !. The ones that had good defences were certainly glad of them this morning and there was a lot of bailing out as I splashed down the road. Then I spotted a little tuk tuk driver pushing his waterlogged taxi down the road, ha ha pay back time for yesterday, the robbing dogs
Now the flood levels could be worse, apparently they are forecasting higher tide levels tomorrow, but its all very uncertain, just as long as I can get out to the airport tomorrow for my flight to Chiang Mai I will be happy.
Taxi ride to Downtown Bangkok today, masses of gleaming shopping malls, it was a far cry from the scenes outside my hostel this morning. Had a bit of a wander round then went off to the Hard Rock Cafe, I like to visit them in all the towns I visit to have a look round at the memorabilia and buy a T shirt :-).
Took a ride on the impressive Skytrain to Emporium Mall from the Siam Center and went up to the fantastic food hall, such a massive selection, I scoffed out on Vietnamese noodle soup followed by spicy chicken and rice, a very nice touch !
