A very early start today for the first day for my 2 day, 1 night trip to the Mekong Delta.

Coach trip down in the morning to Ben Tre and very soon after leaving HCMC I could see the spectacular green expanses of the fertile delta area with its paddy fields, vast coconut palm forests, floating fishing villages and patchwork of canal system.

We boarded a small boat at Ben Tre on to the Mekong and travelled a short while down a tributary where we stopped off at a small local brick factory, it was interesting to see the whole process being carried out all by hand, mostly by women!. We then moved on down the river to a coconut processing workshop where local people were making sweets. We then made our way onto some much smaller traditional boats which were oared by some local women down the zigzag network of small canals to a restaurant in the middle of no where to have a lovely lunch. Back on the boat again and then the coach heading down to Can Tho for an overnight stay ready for visiting the nearby floating markets in the morning.

Up early the next day and we were quickly aboard a boat again heading for Cai Rang floating Market, which is the largest in this region. Was such an amazing sight to see the locals carrying out their day to day lives on the river and hundreds of boats packed with Mangoes, Bananas, Papaya and Pineapple etc for selling, buying and exchanging.

We then headed off to see a local fruit garden and sample some fruits before a stop off back in Can Tho for some lunch. We then headed back to Saigon via Vnh Long Market for a stop off and refreshments.

All in all a very enjoyable 2 day tour, was good to get out of the hectic city and experience life on the Mekong River Delta.

Last day in Vietnam today (Wednesday), I have really enjoyed my time here, I've seen some wonderful sights and will defiantly return again one day, as there is loads more I didn't have time to see.

Heading off to Cambodia tomorrow to Siem Reap and the magical monuments at Angkor, I've got a feeling this could be one of the highlights of the whole trip.
