So alas the dawn of the fourth day brings us to our quest - Machu Picchu!! We got up around 4am so we could arrive at the entry gate of Machu Picchu to see it as the sun rises but it was all mist - but then when the mist finally cleared and we saw Machu Picchu for ourselves it truly was a marvel. I felt like ancient (wo)man would have felt finding the sacred Inca city after days of hardship - well I would have apart from the 600 other people sharing this marvel - fecking tourists!

We arrived in good time - before the light-weights who took the train arrived and had the time to enjoy our tour with Sylvia and then explore the city for ourselves. It truly is wonderous what the Inca peoples achieved over 1100 years ago, its a vast and accomplished maze of sacred sites, houses (1 and 2 storey houses belive it or not!!), alters, walk-ways, terraces and much much more. With it being undiscovered (hardly surprising its in the middle of bleeding nowhere) its very well preserved and you cant help but get all Incaīd up whilst your there. The passage ways and stairwells (which are particularly high considering Inca peoples were approx. 4.5 ft tall) are carved from the mountains which is no mean feat now, never mind 100īs of years ago and being the optimist I am I couldnīt help but think of the amount of Inca people who must have died in its making!

So Machu Picchu - a journey back into ancient Inca civilisation, a journey into the Andes and mystic cloud forest, a journey of self discovery and a journey that nearly fecking killed us! I know what happened to the Incaīs they went to the shop for a carton of milk, a loaf of bread and 40 silk-cut and couldnt be arsed wlaking back up!!

Machu Picchu - a fantastic experience and a highlight of our trip so far although a girl has to be honest a lot can be said for taking the train!!
