Inca Trek Day 3 the

So the long awaited easy part of the trek - day 3! Woke up - just for the craic - at 5am. Well I was up anyway after yet another night of sweating and crazy dreams. Out for breakfast - another gastromnomic field of delights - and our prep talk which informed us that our trek today would involve : going down for a bit, walking the original Inca trail for a bit and then "Andean" flats all the way to camp. Easy buns!

Well let me tell you we were duped! Fooled and mislead!! The "down for a bit" was actually a scarey cliff decent on damp and jagged rocks reminiscent of Frodo and Sam in their ring quest, whereby inducing Miss Hardy here falling on her ring on numerous occasions, all the while trying to keep face and pretend I enjoyed the little thrills and wasnt in any pain. Then comes the origianl Inca trail part which makes us understand why most of it is now unusable, and other parts take you through tunnels carved from the mountain sides whice are fantastic and really interesting until you get a mouthful of spider web and you know all about it and so we soldiered on in the anticipation of the flat parts that were yet to come - the "Andean" flat parts. They were as flat as Dolly Partons chest! I tell ye what the only difference between day 2 and day 3 is the altitude if you ask me. With day 3 you dont feel like your head and lungs are about to explode from lack of pressure and oxygen!

But then when you are settled in your dinner tent for the night and contentedly sipping your mulled wine after a fantastic 4 course meal you cant really complain! Then when your very treasured and thoughtful travelling companion - enter Mr Gary Ireland - produces a family size bar of Dairymilk he has been harbouring as a surprise life cant get any better - maybe these Inca´s didn´t get it so bad! Well apart from being anniliated by those Spanish fenians that is!
