Dead Irish Woman´s Pass

So my friends we meet again! Yes I thought I´d write this one as it involved a trip to ´Dead WOmans Pass´and as it nearly killed me then who better to write about it!

Every time you get 2 the top - another fecking one

So we got our wake up call at the unholy hour of 5am after a terrible nights sleep - not because of the fact we were tented on a damp Andean hillside, no because I spent the night sweating like a mad woman in my thermal underwear, socks, sleeping bag liner and thermal sleeping bag - why did I have all this you ask?? Beacuase every fecker and fecking book tells you to thats why! Anyway after our 3 course breakfast - yes my friends 3 courses - fruit and grenola, pancakes and porridge, after the porters gacve us our lunch bags full of our energy snacks it was commence day 2 - the trek to Dead Womans Pass and the notorious rumoured hardest day of the Inca Trek!

To be honest I was quite surprised at how easy the walk was - it fact it was quite pleasant - I was strolling along thinking - whats all the fuss about?? Was I feck! 100 yards into it and I was knackered, sweating and wheezing like wheezy thing on the wheeziest day of the year with an electrified wheezing machine! It was ALL uphill - and I dont mean no Cavehill here were talking mountains baby!

It was horrendous. I was punctured but I kept pushing yself saying just to the top of this next bend then it´ll go flat - when I got to the bend what was there?? Another feckin gbend only fecking higher and more raggety. I swear to God if there was one point of my trip I wanted to be Dorothy and wish myself back home in Kansas with a cup of tea and a drifter it was then. I wanted to sit on a rock and cry until someone took pity on me and put me on their backs! But as a true Irish woman I soldiered on, pushed myself to my limits and finished the trek! (then went and cried for my mummy in the privacy of my own tent!)

We made it!!

It was a really difficult day, hard work, nearly killed the whole lot of us but at the same time when it was over the adrenaline rush and sense of achievement was unreal. I imagine its kinda like childbirht - you scream, sweat and swear, every part of your body is in agony and screaming for the pain to be over, you swear you are never going to do it again and then - calm and the results make it all worth while!!
