I'm staying with Gary, Aidans "wee" brother who has been living and working here for almost a year and a half. He works in a 5* restaurant, and the cheapest thing on the menu is a burger that costs $17. Hmmm.
The first night I was here we almost got into a fight. We were sitting in the bar, having a quiet drink when an argument breaks out between these guys outside, and one guy punches another. Now, as you know I'm not the type to get involved in a fight.... ahem..... but what made this different was the guy on the receiving end of the punch was in a fucking wheelchair!!! We both ran outside to stop it, and things got a little heated. I tried my best to calm things down, and to pat myself on the back I did a pretty good job, until I noticed Gary was missing. I found him halfway up the street about to knock the shit out of the wanker who had hit the guy in the chair. Not wanting to get arrested again, I talked him out of fighting, and got him back to the bar. A successful night all round.
It's $100 per day to go skiing here in Aspen, so that wasn't going to happen, but fortunately Gary was able to get me a free pass for the day. :) Having only skied once before and nearly broken my thumb, I'm kinda thinking about a nice beginners slope filled with kids laughing at me. Gary had other ideas though, and took me up Mt. Aspen, a ski slope that beginners shouldn't even look at. I don't know how many times I fell, a couple of them quite serious, one almost knocking me out, but I eventually made it to the bottom alive. I went back up the mountain later that afternoon to take a few snaps, and looking at it, I can't believe I actually skied down it! At best it's an intermediate slope, so to make it on only my second time skiing is pretty impressive, even if I do say so myself.
And I do.
