Driving from Denver to Aspen I notice a sign that says Buffalo Bills Grave, so I thought I'd check it out.  It was surprisingly good!  I always thought Buffalo Bill was a right dickhead who nearly hunted the buffalo to extinction, but he was actually a pretty decent guy.

Ok, he did kill nearly 5000 buffalo in about a year, but it was for food for the railroad workers.  It was a couple of years after that when hundreds of people came out west to to kill buffalo for sport and and to sell their fur as a fashion accessory and he was one of the first to speak out about it.  He even bought a buffalo herd to protect them, and it's estimated that 25% of all buffalo today are decended from this herd.

Bill had a pretty amazing life.  His father was a loud voice for equal rights, and while giving an anti-slavery speech at the local trading post, he pissed off the supporters of slavery in the audience that they formed a mob and one of them stabbed him.  Wee Bill dragged his father to safety, then on another occasion road 30 miles to warn him of an ambush by some rednecks.  Oh aye, he was 10 fucking years old

Bill fought in the American Civil War, served under General Custer, was awarded the Medal of Honour, was good mates with Wild Bill Hickok, made Annie oakely famous, was one the first to campaign for womens and Indian rights, and gave Cheif Sitting Bull a job on his world famous Wild West Show.

So pretty much an all round hell of a guy!
