On our way from Mendocino to Santa Rosa we stopped off at Point Arena Lighthouse which is where the San Andreas fault line runs (4 miles to the east) and can apparently be seen (again Lonely Planet pointer). So we climbed the 145 steps to the top of the lighthouse only to find that there are no windows out to the East so unless you're superman it's not possible to see the fault line (Lonely Planet please re-write your guide). However, the guide at the top had some astounding facts about the lighthouse, 666 panes of glass used to build to Fresnel leans (built in France and the last of it's kind), the only perfectly symmetrical lighthouse built as it used the Swedish building method using cylindrical tubes and rebuilt after the earthquake to it's original design. The movie starring Mel Gibson 'Forever Young' was also filmed here. On arrival into Santa Rosa our first port of call was Circuit City to buy a laptop. Although everywhere along the way has had wifi this seems to have put internet cafes out of business (as per our experience in Golds Beach). After upgrading the model Gareth had had in mind (I should be in sales) we headed in search of accommodation. Truly not worth mentioning, let's just say worst nights sleep yet topped off by the experience at Applebee's which Gareth tried to sell as an American Cobb 'n' Co (surely Cobb 'n' Co was not this bad). It's worth mentioning other purchases made, one skipping rope for cardio purposes and one pair of jandals (flip flops for you Brits reading this) as he'd left his pair behind in Vancouver. Bring on Napa!
