We headed out to Victoria on Vancouver Island by float plane which was a 45 minute flight and a spectacular experience.  The views over Vancouver where incredible especially Stanley Park which is an incredible park with stunning sea and inland walks and teaming with wildlife (although still no Beavers spotted at Beaver Lake).  On arriving into Victoria we took a bus out to the renowned Butchart Gardens which have been round for 104 years.  The Butchart's built a cement factory on the island and Mrs Butchart refurbished the exhausted limestone quarry into what is now the sunken garden (no small feat).  The gardens have continued to expand over the years (22ha - interesting fact just for you dad ;-) as part of their love of travelling and from their future generations inspirations.  The stunning 'Ross Fountain' is breathtaking and one of my favourite features of the gardens.  These are the best gardens we've visited.  After a few hours of fresh air and sunshine we headed back into town to take high tea at the Empress Hotel.  Our waitress (aka old maid) was falsely over enthusiastic.  On presenting the tray of cakes and sandwiches she asked us if we had a camera and somewhat confused, we answered as if she were a bit slow.  She then proceeded to take a picture of us over our high tea which we thought was hilarious, was now a good time to mention we live in the country of original high tea??  None the less we enjoyed the high tea.  We had a mooch round the town before heading back to Vancouver by bus and ferry which was about a 3 hour trip back.
