We arrived into Jasper with it snowing and being advised that most of the roads are likely to be closed down....hmm..looks like we might be stuck here for a little while.
Woke up the next day to more snow so went back to sleep, fortunately later on the day the snow disappeared and the sun came out so we headed down to the VIC to see what there was to do in Jasper. After loading up on some brunch at the Black Sheep we went to Maligne Canyon to check out some frozen waterfalls, (these were a novelty to us) and walk along the canyon. The walk was relatively easy but we decided to go off track a little on the way back which I struggled with a bit (not very good for the Inca Trail but still have time to get fit). Alanna motored through it easily as usual. We decided to head to the Fairmont Jasper Lodge to have a look. This place is in a great location with magnificent views. We decided we had earnt one of there 'special' coffees before we checked out Pyramid Lake. This was completely frozen over but still worth the visit.
The next day we headed to Banff through the Icefields Parkway. This drive is nothing short of spectacular. We were lucky to get perfect blue skies during most of the drive but there was still plenty of snow around and each time we stopped to take photo's the car tyres would spin and take a bit of effort to get going again...(knew I should have gone for the SUV). Before we arrived in Banff we stopped off at Lake Louise for a look, this was good but not as great as I was expecting due to all the snow covering the lake. We did have a laugh at some muppet (no, it wasn't Alanna) that ignored the thin ice sign and walked onto the lake to take a photo only to fall through the ice. He got out alright but lost his camera and was looking pretty embarassed.
