Things we saw/ People we meet:
Washington has giant rats, even bigger than the ones in NYC. Bigger than my dog. OK, Blade isn't very big.
Fords theatre was closed, no re-enacting the Family Guy Mentos ad.
Possibly the first ever Tornado warning in Manhattan. Seriously...a tornado, in Manhattan. Its like The Day After Tomorrow.
Henrik! And Friends. Cool people but so stereotypical. So much terrible rap music! Henrik watch your accent, you already have a hint of American. We did our best to thump some Okka back in though
We had free tickets to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island and spent 3 days delayed in NYC and still didn't manage to get to Liberty Island. Seeing it from Liberty Park was good enough really. So much effort lining up for those damn ferries.
Things we did:
Took some crazy bus from China Town in NYC to China Town in Washington...at 11pm. Arriving in Washington, one of Americans more dangerous cities, at 3am was tons of fun. Actually it was, we adventured all over Washington in the dark. Went from China Town to Capitol Hill, then Across to the Washington, Lincoln and WW2 monuments before heading over to the Jefferson Memorial. All this only took about 4 hours of walking with no sleep (thank God we left our backpacks at Henriks!).
Rather than head to our Hotel (which he honestly had no idea where it was, it wasn't even in Washington DC really) we braved our lack of sleep and spent a few hours at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. and saw all the milestones of flight in one place, pretty cool. We finally decided to head out in the general direction of our Hotel in Arlington, about 25 mins out of DC. Arlington Cemetery was on the way so we decided to spend a bit more time seeing the graves of America's Heroes, such as JFK.
By the time we were through we were pretty damn tired. Using the map we photographed at the train station we somehow figured there was a shortcut to be had if we jumped this back fence in the cemetery
NYC Part 2.
We dragged ourselves out of bed at like 6am to line up for tickets to the Conan O'Brien show. 29 People were admitted, we had tickets up to 35....so sad and so very tired. It also required a whole day of effort as we had to return to line up a second time to get denied....I'd still do it again, I want to go! And no, I know it's easy to get tickets to Letterman but he sucks. Don't even bother asking about Colbert or Jon Stewart, 6 months in advance only.
What's the most times you think its possible to get shafted and miss a 1 hour flight? One...two? Well we made it to three. Our first flight out NYC was cancelled due to a severe storm warning. Our second flight the next day was cancelled due to a Tornado warning...once again, no freaking way
Washington is actually run by a collective conscience congealed from a group of long-dead American founding fathers, known only as "the Patriots". It all makes sense now, right....right? Raiden?
Also the Conan O'Brien show hates me, but I love Conan. Obviously love unrequited.
American Airlines hates me. And possibly to an equivalent extent Jon. Mutual.
Fords Theatre Joke -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWd6TW6u0g0 . Must kill Lincoln.
