Sam: So our time spent in Nha trang was spent mostly in the hotel room. My asian tummy failed me and i got food poisioning, not fun at all. Especially in the middle of an 'episode' there was a power cut throughout the whole city. It proved quite interesting! Got the overnight bus to Hoi an we had to stop a lot on route so i could be sick although sometimes it just went out the window. What doesn't kill you ... ??! Much better now, thank god. Hoi an is quiet and quaint and tiny. The weather here is terrible and there isn't much to do (apart from spend money). Hired some bikes one day which proved to be a great way to see the surrouding area. Rest of time has been spent in tailors something Hoi an is famous for. I designed my own silk dress and its gorgeous! Also two pairs of shoes. The vietnamise girls found this hilarious, my shoes have a 12 inch heel. A crowd formed and they all took turns trying them on, i felt like bridget jones in the bangkok prison! Getting the bus today to Hue (in an effort to keep us away from the tailors!)

Giles:  This definitely is a quiet little place.  We were based on the main road through the town (more of a rubble track with numerous potholes, I was just thankful for the pavement).  There's about a thousand tailors here and not much else, aside from a market which is home to the biggest rats I've ever seen - about the same size as my shoe!  Weather has been pretty pants too, even rained yesterday.  Not that woudl stop our fun, we hired a couple of bicycles for US$1 per bike for the whole day and went on a tour.  Found the local beach - famously Vietnam's most beautiful beach - to find it completely deserted and barren.  Obviously due to the weather, but it was still quite eerie.

Tourism must still be lacking here, *every single* person who runs a shop or stall or anything kept yelling "hellooooo you come in buy something?" which got very irritating after a while, and even politely responding with a no thank you warranted a "why not?!?!" in reply.  Quite amusing that unfounded aggression.

The tailor shos were definitely the reason this place is n the map though.  Apart from having hundreds of different tailors, it was cheap and great service.  I got all excited about a pair of flip flops I had custom made, choosing the material, colours, design, etc.  Then I got seriously overexcited and ended up buying a whole suit!  US$85 for trousers, jacket and shirt - all custom made and fitted using the "finest Italian" cloth (it had Milano embroidered on it, I'm happy enough).  Worked out cheaper, just, than my current tatty Primark suit I have back home!  Not that I'm going to need a suit anytime soon, but it fitted so well and hid the flab nicely.  Sam loved it too.  Sam's dress was amazing also, again custom made using locally made silk and fits flawlessly.  By the way Mum, I'll be sending my suit home by seamail so expect a package in a few months - I can't be doing with lugging a suit around with me for the next year!

Onto Hue in a couple of minutes (well probably an hour or two with the exceptional punctuality of Vietnamese public transport) for an overnight stay - apparently quieter than this place, followed by an overnight trip to Hanoi, the capital for a few days before our Christmas tour to Halong Bay.  Expect more blogs en route!

Much love, Gam and Siles xxx
