28th October, 2008.

Okay its day 5 now of my first proper offshore gig. The boat, the Khawla 182 is a bit of an old timer barge - the brick of the South China Sea... but seems well maintained and not ready to sink any time soon. Its about 60m long with accomodation for about 90. The rooms are extra tiny with 4 bunks per room (Im lucky Ive got one on my own). The food is pretty shizen... but the chef is friendly and his name is Quack so thats ok.

The seas were pretty rough on the 2nd night, we had to sail back into port for shelter. My stomach quickly got used to being thrown around by a constantly changing centre of gravity - after skipping a meal or two.

If you need extra chairs on a boat... dont take ones with wheels - its tough enough trying to concentrate on a non-rolling chair let alone a chair that rolls with the waves. Or if you do - duct tape them.

One week down another 2 or so to go.

I heard on the news last night that pirates have been hijacking boats in the seas around Somalia - they better not come near us... the sultan will whip out his lightsabre and new Stark missiles.
