Renaca for R & R
Entry 14 of 16 | show all | print this entry |
When I was in Santiago the last time (before Mendoza) I took a one day tour of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. They are two largish towns about and hour and a half North of Santiago. Valparaiso is an important port and is very quirky in its architecture. Lots of terraces with brightly coloured homes going all the way up the hill. We also went to Vina del Mar which translated means Wine of Sea. This sounded like my kind of place to end my 6 week trip in! However, when I got there I realised it was another large city and I really wanted a bit of beach. The tour took us out to Renaca, a beach town just a few minutes North of Vina del Mar. I booked a hotel there for my last four or five nights and that´s where I am now.
My room has a double bed, fridge, TV and swimming pool. Wow, wow, wow and Wow! It´s the ideal spot to chill but half of Argentina and Brazil seem to think so too. I have heard only two ladies speaking in English since my arrival three days ago. There´s a great buzz about the place with the uniform being denim mini skirt and bikini. Now where did I leave my denim mini skirt? or my bikini for that matter!
It´s pretty cool in the mornings with the Humboldt current cooling things down so I have been going for long walks. Walked to Con Con yesterday - next village up. Am going to try for Vina del Mar today. By the afternoon it´s about 30 degrees and really pleasant for the swimming pool or beach.
Met a Chilean girl, Danielle, last night who was waiting for her best friend to arrive. He eventually did - he´s gay and great fun. They want to practice their English so am meeting them later on for a drink.
I have been doing a lot of tripping around with buses, planes and shanks mare and am due to start travelling home on Wednesday night. This place is ideal to top up the tan and get the head into gear for work next week! Thanks for all the emails and texts - it´s great to get the news.
