Well today is our last day of vacation. We got up around 7:30 am, had a basic breakfast of bagels, and said our goodbyes to Sandy. She was our only guest in the camper on the trip and it was great seeing her. We packed up the trailer and were on the road a little after 9 am. Dulcey is feeling the after effects from her accident yesterday with her thumb causing her the greatest discomfort.

The GPS says it is 9.5 hours to get home but we will not be taking the most direct route which would be to head towards the coast and go up I-95, the Garden State Parkway, and over the GW Bridge in New York City. We know better to avoid the urban areas of Baltimore, NJ, and NYC if at all possible. As we are already adjacent to I-81 we are happy to drive the extra half hour to avoid all that junk as we are sure to make up for it with less traffic. So we are looking at a 7 pm arrival assuming no stops with around 9 pm more likely.

We headed up scenic I-81 through Virginia towards Pennsylvania. In going through the little bits of West Virginia (37 miles) and Maryland (10 miles) we were able to touch 4 states within an hour. Big difference from Texas which took us over 800 miles to cross. We chose Hershey, PA as a stopping point to stretch our legs and have lunch (PB&J anyone?). We stopped in Hershey a few years back when we toured southeastern Pennsylvania over April vacation but Mattias does not remember much of that trip and that time it was Good Friday (Some advice - going to Hershey on a school holiday just before Easter is NOT a good idea). We figured if it was not too busy this time we would do some of the Chocolate World stuff, worst case being we would just pick up so chocolate goodies. Well it was quite mobbed so we limited our time to buying goodies and a few gifts. The slight detour cost us about an hour.

The rest of the drive has gone smoothly. The boys finished watching two movies - Muppet Treasure Island and Akeela and the Bee. We entered Connecticut at 6 pm and Zach is now driving. Gary drove the first four hours and then Dulcey drove the next three. In the meantime Mattias is finishing up activities in his Kids' US Atlas (he does the pages for each state we go through), and Ben is trying to finish his assigned summer reading. We are now 2 hours from home and just stopped at a Friendly's for a sit down dinner and ice cream.

We'll send a short blog entry once we get home and do one more entry later this week with some interesting statistics to recap the trip along with photos of the renovated kitchen.

Thanks everyone for coming along on the ride with us. We hope you have enjoyed reading about our adventures. We have especially appreciated everyone who has posted comments and sent well wishes. It is heartwarming to know that we have such great friends and family looking out for us. For those back home in New England we look forward to seeing you soon!
