Walking around in the hot rain to try and find somewhere to eat, was not mine nor katie´s idea of a birthday celebration, so we headed off to the shopping mall and ended up going to the cinema to see The Reaping.
The next morning I had planned for us to go to the Butterfly farm, which turned out to be really interesting and our guide, Diego was charming. The 26th was more promising as we were heading off to the beach. I initially understood it was only an hour to the beach, then corrected that it was three, we actually arrived in Manuel Antonio 5 hours later, at our hostel, just unloading our stuff from the car and there was a blackout. Apparently power cuts are fairly regular there.
The hostel was American run, really friendly and clean and a nice bunch of people were staying there. We headed off to the beach early the next morning and had a pretty good day, apart from restaurant experience (yet again!). Went to a fish restaurant, he sat us down, let us order drinks and then told us he had no fish. Anyway, it was an awesome day at the beach and the weather was really great. Again, that night we had terrible service at the restaurant we went to, weird smelling prawns and then only one main course with potatoes when we had asked them without.
The fact that we had to go back to San jose was bad enough, the driver made the journey even worse and didnt bother taking us to our hotel, just left us inthe main street and didnt help us with our baggage. The owner of the hotel under construction, was incredibly rude and disorganised and gave terrible customer service and made out he was really hassled with "four groups from Gap" and didnt even have our names. On arrival he was watching TV.
Lunch today topped it all off. We had an overly smiley waitor who told us, after 40 mins of waiting for our food that "your lasagne is on the way", yeah we ordered chicken. So then he brings out the chicken with a load of chips and says "here is the chicken with extra chips", i had asked for it without chips-extra vegetables and then brings us out (20 mins after ordering it) the "Tropical mixed fruit plate", we had pineapple and watermelon.
I am just really hoping our GAP group is full of fun people and the tour of Costa Rica is good, if not at least we will have 5 days at the beach at the end of the tour.
The one good thing about San Jose is that due to the thousands of fast food chains, Katie and i appear very thin in comparason to the larger locals.
