Eventually got to Puerto Varas which is much nicer than chiloe. THe hostel was so much fun and we met lots of other people. All were really nice, except the american. He drove us insane. He interrupted our game of Chess, started talking about "strategies". He didnīt speak much spanish, yet when i asked him how long he had been travelling (in english by the way) he said "dos semanas....., Oh sorry, two weeks, i just keep flipping from Spanish to American all the time", from there on he kept adding in the "si, si," or "lo siento" and then translating it for us. (he didnīt shower for the two days he stayed at the hostel and his bag stank of foot and banana skin). He also kept asking Margarit the french girl for cigarettes but he doesnt smoke, which you could so tell.
The next morning he was standing practically naked in our dorm (how much of a traveller do i sound....Dorm!!!!!) and then said "god i really need this coffee to sooth my head", one of those comments that wants a "oh...so what did you get upto last night?" kindof reply, but we didnīt give him the satisfaction. THEN we planned to go horse riding, by the way was the BEST horse riding i have ever done, no helmet, cowboy style, gallopping through fields and fields and we went SO fast, our guide was really cool and took us to a mountain top, on horseback to view the lake and volcano, if my bum didnt hurt so much today, i would definately be doing it again! The american guy asked us what we were doing that day and then later on he is at the bus stop, telling us he is coming too! When we arrive there he slips in that he is actually afraid of horses and not such a keen rider. ???? why go riding then?
katie and i were gallopping ahead and he was bobbing about in the distance behind us. Then he complained later of his intercostal muscles hurting and a bad back.
we hitch hiked home and he told us about life being a paramedic/firefighter, all of it sounded made up. and of course he slipped in a cringe comment about being drunk but that "the girlfriend i had, past tense, stayed the night, so it couldnt have been that bad".
anyway, HE LEFT early this morning, YAY. I have had so much fun here in puerto Varas, The hostel was really nice, and to top it all of, we just purchased Freshly picked blueberries,(my favourite) so all in all, it has been Awesome.
Now back to Santiago for Easter and then off to the Northern Desert.
lots of love from a very happy traveller!
