I am now in my third emperial city of Morrocco. I have been moving around with the locals in every city and town. I happy to say that I have not gotten sick; just one bad spill on marble stairs here in Maknes. Once again I will be staying inside the Medina(old city) here in Meknes for 3 days. From here I will be taking day trips to Fes and the famous Volubilis. Volubilis is the site of the largest and best preserved Roman ruins in Morocco according to Unesco.

Ourika Valley and the Middle Atlas Berbers:

Three days ago I took a trip to Ourika Valley to be among the Berber people of the Middle Atlas Mountains during a festival on Saturday.

Moroccan Berbers mostly live outside Fes, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, and Agadir and speak one of 4 dialects of Berber. It is hard to distinguish a Arabic Moroccan from a Berber. About 70% of Moroccans have Berber blood and only half acknowledge their origin as part Berber. The word Berber in Arabic means barbarian.
