Show trip route
After our stop by the Big Boy we set off to find something to eat in downtown Cheyenne. We only had a little bit of time because we wanted to see the live gunslingers show, so we needed to find a place that was fast. One of the problems that we have when we go on vacation is that we become very aggravated with our food choices. Simply put, tourist food is poor quality and expensive. I was tired of burgers and fries and Max was turning into a chicken tender so we wanted some quality food. It is nice to want, but unfortunately these places are hard to find. We settled for a burger shop, but when we arrived a the location there was an italian restaurant next to it. Consequently, both restaurants the burger joint (Two Doors Down) and the italian restaurant were owned by the same people. We had a good meal (salads, good soup, gnocchi) and it was fast.
Our next destination was the free gunslingers show and we arrived just in time. The host walked around and asked everyone where we were from. It is always dangerous to admit that you are from Massachusetts when out these parts and as you will soon see why. The show's actors were campy and the jokes were mildly funny at times. The best part were the loud blanks that they fired off every now and then. Essentially the show was a reenactment of a traditional gun fight a swift western justice.
As the show approached the finale the MC made his way around looking for a volunteer. His criteria was that he needed to find someone that did not look dressed for the west. I was wearing shorts, t-shirt, sneakers, and baseball hat. Granted I did not have cowboy boots and a stetson on, but neither did most of the spectators. Personally I thought the guy behind us wearing surf shorts and cowboy boots looked ridiculous, but he wasn't from Massachusetts.
My cameo was the role of "unsuspecting foreigner that is to be hanged". They included the family and set up a mock hanging with it all culminating into making me swagger like John Wayne (sure...pick on the yankee). In the end they were gracious enough to give me a cowboy hat and my wife a fake yellow rose complete with dew drops.
The next day included a long trip home from Cheyenne to Denver then a 3 1/2 hr trip to Boston. We had a great time, but are glad to be home.
