Firstly an apology for the long silence with no blog entry! I've been high up in the Annapurna Himalayas for the past 3 weeks with extortionately priced internet access only twice and only a paper diary to resort to. I intend over the next few days to write some back-dated entries to document my adventures so please bear with me!
I'm now in Pokhara enjoying some well-earned R&R having completed my 17 day Annapurna Circuit trek yesterday afternoon. Not quite the idyllic, sunny haven I had in mind however- we've been treated to almighty thunder storms both yesterday evening and this afternoon, with roads turning to rivers in a matter of minutes and hail stones the size of sugar cubes (no exaggeration!).
Having arrived in Pokhara a day ahead of schedule and not anticipating Clare arriving until today at the earliest, it was a very welcome surprise to spy her supping a cup of tea at a roadside cafe yesterday as I strolled through the town. Needless to say we had loads of catching up to do and spent the rest of the day yabbering and enjoying a celebratory pizza (a real Italian one, not a Nepali approximation thereof!) and a glass or two of red wine, along with a Swiss friend, Fanny, I had met on the trek.
Today has been a lazy day of strolling round Lakeside, browsing the souvenir shops, chatting to various familiar faces from our respective travels, and a spot of rowing on the Phewa Tal. I've had some fun negotiating with the lying, cheating folk at my hotel who tried to scam me out of 1000Rp they owed on behalf of my trek company. Somewhat bewilderingly they seemed to think that if they smiled enough and made a joke out of it I would just back down. Amazing how quickly the money materialised however after I threw some weight around and pointed out that I was more than willing to divert prospective customers away from their hotel via the various online travel forums ;) So ladies and gents, the Bedrock Hotel in Pokhara East Lakeside is definitely one to be avoided! Needless to say I've now decamped to Clare's hotel..
We've booked ourselves dawn tandem paragliding flights from Sarangkot for tomorrow morning which I'm very excited about! Full details in the next post..
Must dash now to beat the next downpour!!

Sounds fun so far
Glad to read that you are enjoying all these new experiences. Must have been great to meet up with Clare, a face from home, and catch up with her travels too. Pleased to see that you are not letting the natives get one over on you. Keep having fun. Love Liz and John
