Day to day life has been ticking along calmly lately and I have got my residency for New Zealand, meaning I don't need to keep applying for work permits. And also meaning I am allowed to leave the country and come back! Being round the other side of the world hasn't really stopped my feet from itching and I am looking forward to going to Fiji with my friend Jill in September, and showing Mum and Dad the sights of the South Island when they come to visit over Christmas.

I haven't left Auckland much lately, but have been enjoying all the things to do in and around Auckland. Although it's winter, the days tend to be sunny and fairly warm so it's still great to go walking round the bays, and climbing up the collection of local volcanoes. Occasionally Rick has persuaded me to venture out to Woodhill, which has a multitude of mountain bike tracks. There are also many scary looking jumps (luckily with by-passes to avoid them!). Rick and Matt raced off and stopped to wait for Jill and I every so often just to make sure we hadn't ended up in the undergrowth. We preferred a slightly more sedate approach... especially up hill!

Last weekend Rick and I visited Devonport by ferry. On Auckland's North Shore, this feels more like a village than part of a major city. We wandered along the shore, visited some of the galleries and gift shops, and Rick managed to drag me out of the fantastic second hand bookshop.... eventually. We had a very late lunch at a South American restaurant we found down a side street- cerviche and pisco sours, just like being back in Peru but without the dodgy stomach. Afterwards we headed back to the city for a friend's birthday party- a typical Saturday night of beer, good food and rugby.
