Being trapped in an airport isn't much fun. Repeatedly queueing to find out what is going on, onlyh to meet polite requests to come back later. Haunting the duty free. Subsisting on coke and Burger King. Feeling that little stab of jealousy when flights start to leave again, the suitcases start rolling and I am still here. Stuck.
Eventually the polite people sorted me out. I was moved to a flight through LA. So suddenly there was the mad rush of trying to sort out electronic entry to the USA, the struggle to find a free internet terminal that actually worked. I managed in the end, filled in my details, clicked send. And was back to the endless waiting. Wasn't there a Tom Hanks movie where he was trapped in an airport? I began to know how he felt.
10pm. Time to board the plane. I'd been up since 3 and had even taken a day off work. The frustrations melted away as the plane's wheels left the runway. Second time lucky. I was on my way to Canada.
