There is something about Auckland that seems to suck the life out of travellers. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice city. But it's just that; a city. Nothing special once you get past the novelty of being in a new country.
Auckland is full of immigrants. Lots with money. Goals that have been realized, but that don't quite live up to the hype. I was served by a girl named "Cinderella" at one point. Apparently the victim of her parent's knowledge of "the West". So may people with money. So many people wasting their lives. It's not as simple as they all thought it would be.
I saw a few friends one last time before saying a final farewell. I took in a free concert and did some drinking, scarred off an English girl and lived up to other's expectations.
I spent a good time reading, watching TV and surfing the net. I tried to excuse it by saying it was "necessary", but really I was just feeling lazy.
I did finally spend a day on Rangitoto Island. A nice day out from Auckland, though it was filled with Aucklanders.
I went out to Danny Doolans one last time last night. It was quiet. I had a whisky and went home.
I'll be on the South Island soon. I'm leaving behind a part of me on the North Island.
Goodbye Auckland.
