Mercury Bay was named by James Cook while he surveyed the planet, you guessed it, Mercury. Kiwis worship this guy.
My first leg of my "Kiwi Experience" is complete. I have to admit, its not a terrible experience, and would have been worth the money. The whole thing is very social. Most people stay at the same hostel and get drunk together on the first night.
I ipted to stay in Whitianga for an extra couple of days. So far I have been the only one staying, which is a shame because it is a wonderful place. At least when the weather cooperates. Which it hasn't really been doing the past couple of days.
I did a kayak trip around "Cathedral Cove"
Wednesday night we all went out to the local karaoke night which was loads of fun. I closed the place down with a "Doors" song.
The next morning I was glad I didn't get on the bus with everyone as I was pretty hung-over. I spent the afternoon carving a bone "fish-hook" neck-thing.
Last night I spent talking with an American girl, and later, a random Kiwi about sex, politics and religion. I've missed good conversation.
Tomorrow I'm off to Rotorua, then back to Tauranga to work.

Why won't this go anywhere?
. The sun came out halfway through the trip making it a great experience. I had planned to return today and take some pictures, but it's been miserable out.Wednesday night we all went out to the local karaoke night which was loads of fun. I closed the place down with a "Doors" song.
