After a four hour drive we arrived in Gatlingburg in the Smokey Mountains, the home of Dolly Parton. We headed straight for the theme park - Dollyworld!! It was fantastic! Excellent rides, great price and not only that but the park showcased many of the traditional local trades like wagon making, leather crafts, iron plaques etc. It even has its own leading Bird Rehab centre. It was a great atmosphere and we enjoyed the day throughly.

After we checked in to our hotel in Gatlingburg that afternoon we were pleasently suprised with our Bavarian themed hotel and surrounding area. It looked just like a ski resort but without any of the white stuff! We ventured to the main street where there we so many things to do, we settled for a walk around a bite to eat and an early night ready for our waterpark day.

The next day we got up early and headed for Splash World, first ones in the park and straight on the Kamacarzy. Again, we were not dissappointed and had a great time.

That evening we explored Gatlingburg and had a game of Hillybilly golf (crazy golf) which took us up the side of a mountain in a little lift where we both converted back to being extremely competitive ten year olds fighting for the top postition - Mark won! Cheat!

We stopped into the Moonshine distillery on the way home, expecting to have a nosey in a shop, where we came across tap dancing locals performing to old biddies in rocking chairs, shelves and shelves of different flavoured alcohol and what can only be described as a very successful tasting session leading to a neighbouring winery to continue tasting some more of the good stuff!.

Literally stumbling home we came across some lovely Greyhounds and their owner who were visiting for the next weekends Retired Greyhound Convention (only the biggest in the USA!! - Bugger!)

Leaving Gatlinburg the morning after we felt there was SO much to see and do in this little town and we barely scraped the surface but it is a place we will definately re-visit in the future!!
