Driving back to Raleigh, we made a stop to tour the Mordecai House, the oldest home in Raleigh and the seat of one of the largest plantations during the 1800's. Home to five generations, the house features many of the Mordecai Family's original furnishings, portraits, and books. Two original outbuildings remain in the park- the overseer's cabin and the smoke-house. Other historical buildings have been moved into the park. Jan also took me on a driving tour of the historical mansion section of Raleigh including the governor's mansion.
Jan cooked a family dinner so I could meet and talk with Katrina and her family and Neil with his daughter Carter.
