Woke up this morning @ 6:00 listening to the Muslim call to prayer from the mosque a block over. It's a rhythmic chant that gets repeated throughout the day.  I like listening to it.

After breakfast I joined a three-hour guided walking tour through Little India which was excellent!  We walked up and down streets, stopping at a flower garland and betel nut shop, candy and spice shops, a Hindu temple, and the largest "wet market" in Singapore.  We had a lesson in sari tying and in henna art and heard lots of stories about life in the area.  Ate lunch in a northern Indian restaurant where food for some was just spooned on a banana leaf and eaten with their hands.  Tourists like me got a spoon and fork and the curry came in a bowl.

This afternoon I took the subway down to Raffles Place and walked along the river, then crossed the river on the Cavenagh Bridge to the Asian Civilization Museum.  Air conditioned museums are a great place to spend the hottest part of the day, plus it usually clouds up and rains in the late afternoon.     The galleries in this museum are arranged more by topic than by ethnic group or country -- a good reminder of the commonalities across the region.  Skyscrapers tower over the river here, hotels are huge, and it looks like this is the financial district, too.

Finished off the day with a trip to Mustafa, a huge department store of several stories which is open 24 hours per day.  Wandered around for awhile, then walked back to the hotel.,

Well did you like the taste of India enough to want to take an OAT trip to India? Its on our list. Talked to your sister today to welcome her and Dan to 6" inches of new snow. On Friday we are planning on eating at the Thai restaurant on Univ. I'm even going to try to drag Diane to it.
