Our first challenge of the day was shopping at a local market. Each pair was given one lunch item - phonetically spelled - to find and purchase in Thai. The market vendors were very gracious as they tried to understand what we wanted and pointed us in the right direction.

As we arrived at the Boonyapark Early Childhood Center, the 38 children were waiting impatiently to grab our hands and take us to the front of the school. They sang, raised the flag, and exercised before taking us inside the school. They sang and performed for us; then we taught them the hokey-pokey. Everyone read books together before going outside to say goodbye.

We then traveled to the village a few miles away where we met with the village leader and the senior citizens of the village who work together during the day to make crafts to sell. We interviewed the leader, a woman of 72 years, and the village shaman who later took us upstairs into his house to help relieve swelling on Ann and Mary's knees. We learned to toast rice flour chips over charcoal and listened to instrumental music.

Lunch was hosted in a village home where we watched as our host stir fried the food we bought at the market. Also on the menu was sticky rice and pork wrapped in banana leaves, a cold salad, and bananas. Back in the bus we drove north into the mountains. Staying tonight at a lovely resort in Chieng Rai.
