Walked through the parque bolivar which was nice! Had a saltena but it leaked down my sleeve and the rest fell on the floor :-). The first half was nice tho!
Went to the mercado negro, black market! I liked it, loads of people making tailored clothes, hat stalls, the typical clothes the women wear, the market is like half a circle and the rows of stalls have steet names, the stalls have numbers
. All very traditional, no touristy stuff here, its not in the lonely planet. They also have many stalls with shiney made in china crap. Saw a dinosaur with a payphone in its tummy! Walked back to look for the mercado central, thought i passed it and didnt want to go back looking for it, and then i accidently found it. It was amazing!! So much fruit, veg, different sorts of potatoes, juice houses, pastries, bread, .. Upstairs you could eat, so cheap and delicious. Tried the most amazing fruits, never seen them before, massive kiwis, gigantic pinapples and papayas. Had a delicious juice with chirimaya and milk. Jummy, and got a second one for free coz she made too much. Bumped into jo and tyson, they were going to go hiking looking for a nice place in the nature to play guitar.. Then bumped into joanne and hanneke, they were going for lunch upstairs.
Went to la recoleta for a view over town, it was a beatiful walk and the view was magnificent. But even better was the bar with amazing terrace!! Bumped into the canadian guy again, he decided to spend all day up there drinking wine, beer, eating olives, cheese, bread.. Until his bus to la paz leaves at 20h. He said he will also take a bottle of wine to knock him out so he doesnt register the apparently dreadful 12h busride to la paz. I joined him and had a bomba vitaminos like jo and hanneke recomended, it was a shake with banana, egg, coffee, cinnamon, milk, and maybe chocolate, not sure. A bomb indeed
! Tried three holes in the wall, none worked neither for visa nor maestro (insufficient credit, card cant be read, wronge amount, ...). Went to the museum of indignous art, very nice!! Was talking with the ppl at the reception who were surprised when i said i was from english coz my spanish is so good (my conclusion was that english must be terrible at spanish ;-)). On the way back down to town went to another bank, no luck. There was another big manifestation going on at plaza de mayo, apparently they are selecting the student representatives tomorrow. A lot of noise, fire, bangs, .. Went to the government buildig but you werent allowed to climb the capula. Went to the casa de la libertad, looked nice, only 10bobs but decided to watch my money as only have 85 left and still have to pay hostel. Went to another bank, still nothing. Started getting a bit worried but didnt give up, went to another bank and visa was rejected but maestro worked for 2000bobs, not more. Happy to have money i realised i didnt really want to visit the casa de la libertad and went to the musef (museum of ethnography and folklore), asked the price, free.. It was cool, nice collection of masks and an overview of how the people used to live (or maybe still do in some places?). Ashame all the explication was in spanish, and i dont read fast enough (or i dont have the patience).
Couldnt find the blue infinity scarf marienca had, which was very nice!! Went to joy ride travellers agency and asked a bunch of questions about the torotoro dinosaur park, paragliding, huainapotosi, rurenabaque, death road, ... I am deciding to go to cochabamba to go paragliding cutting the busride to la paz in half. I will do the dinosaur museum tomorrow but not the torotoro as it takes like 3 days, and also a day or 2 in cochabamba to organise. To go to rurenabaque he advises a week. So i will choose jungle over dinosaur tracks, but still visit cochabamba to paraglide over the massive cristo there, and see dino tracks at the dino park tomorrow. Then meet jo and hanneke in la paz a day later so we can still do the jungle, death road and the gletcher together. Souds like a good enough plan to me :-). Looking forward to all.
Went for dinner in a vegetarian resto, it was really nice!!! Had a bottle of wine with the group and went back to the hostel plotting and planning to see how much i can do before 11november :-)
Had the rest of my pizza for breakfast and some cereals. Met some people also heading for la paz. They are going to do the gletcher south of lapaz (huarapotosi) which is supposed to be like a south argentina substitute where you learn how to use picks to climb, go up to 6000m and its colder than in the salar excursion. And also the jungle north of lapaz (Madidi from rurenabaque) where you eat herbs that broaden your mind.. I might skip cochabamba and go do that with them. Although the torotoro park souds good and they have a cristo bigger than the one in rio in cochabamba. Decisions decisions.
