We arrived from Butterworth after an overnight train from Chumphon. Chilled out for the afternoon and sorted boat tickets out for Sumatra. Also found a very nice pub, where the Malaysians seemed more British than we did!
Only had one whole day here, which we spent out of the city. Spent the morning in the Botanical Gardens, which was lovely and very peaceful.
We saw Mecaque monkeys, Dusty-Leaf monkeys. a flying squirrel and the biggest spider we've ever seen in his even bigger web!
Unfortunately we didn't get to see many flowers, as they've either just bloomed or are just about too! Left aligned photo tag:
In the evening we went up Penang Hill to watch the sun set over Georgetown. It takes 30 minutes to get up the 740 metre high hill by funicular railway. It's so long and steep that we had to change trains halfway up!
This is probably the nicest view of Georgetown and it was lovely seeing all the lights come. We sat and watched the sun go down in David Brown's tea rooms! Very over-priced and very colonial, but worth it to see the Monkeys running around! Another 30 minutes to get down again!
