After a quiet night in front of the TV, where an annoying German guy insisted on interrupting our film to turn on the oh-so-important formula 1 and then disappeared every few minutes and didn't even really watch it, we drove to Jeffreys Bay, a surf haven where we'd arranged to meet some ex-truckers. Lindsay and Emma had already been there for 2 nights and shortly after we arrived, BJ, Mel, Michelle and Dustin turned up as well. It was so great to see them all again, even though we'd only been apart for 5 days. Dustin and Michelle had just got engaged (the 4th engagement on the truck!!) so we had extra reason to celebrate.

We started drinking early afternoon, were pissed by dinner time and then proceeded to down a phenominal amount of shots, which I claimed were having no effect on me whatsoever, and washed these down with some cocktails.
The shots were only about 50p so we pretty much sampled the whole list. After we left the bar we ended up in Mel & BJ's room where Lindsay, Mel and I decided it would be fun to annoy BJ in his semi-unconscious state by jumping all over him. Apparently, 5 minutes prior to him being slumped on the bed, he'd fallen into a cactus bush.
We left Dustin passed out in a chair listening to the ocean with a cocktail in this hand and went to bed.

Michelle, Dustin, Bart and I had to be up early the next morning for our surfing lesson. It well and truly woke us up and cured any hangover we might have had. It was hard work and after 2 hours of trying my best but failing miserably in all my attempts to stand up, I was exhausted.
Bart decided that since every muscle in this body hurt, that he must have lost some of his Africa fat and despite having previously mocked my diet, decided he now wanted to try it, although his version was going to include alcohol.

After I'd regained some energy it was time to hit the shops. Home to surf factories at stupidly cheap prices it was shopping heaven as well as surf heaven. About R2500 (120/150 pounds) later I figured it was time to have a break or I'd never get all my purchases home. When you have to buy another bag to put all your shopping in, you know you've gone overboard.

The others all left that nigh and it was just the 3 of us again.
The next morning Bart awoke with high hopes of going surfing again, but Brent informed him it was too windy and he was disappointed as he'd wanted to have another workout: "If I can't go surfing then I'm doing exercising in my bed!" he announced, defiantly, at which Brent and I exchanged worrying glances and wondered if the oyster effect had been delayed.

But instead, Brent and Bart went to a waterfall while I stayed at the hostel and spent hours on the internet applying for jobs, the reality hitting me that my holiday is almost over. Although I don't think of it as a holiday, more a lifestyle choice. I've become accustomed to people's shocked/worried/uncomprehensible reactions when I tell them I don't have a job or career and now I think going back to a 9-5 job is going to be the weird thing. I'm not sure how long I'll last...

We did some more (yes, more) shopping in the afternoon. Bart had bought some boardies the previous day, so he could fit in with the surfers, but they were too small so we went to exchange them. The new pair were still quite tight in the rear but he didn't mind: "That's just the way it is, I've got a Dutch arse."
