I was a little sad to leave Wellington as I was sort of settled but that wasn't necessarily a good thing.

Ben & Rach dropped us off at the bus and we made our way up to Napier, Art Deco city and home to several disabled penguins who we'd arranged to go and cuddle the next day.
It was good to be on the road again until we went to bed that night and discovered we had a chronic snorer in our dorm. Simon threw a pillow at him in the middle of the night but it didn't have the desired effect.

The next day it was pouring with rain but we walked round the city regardless, admiring the Art Deco-ness of the buildings. The town got completely bulldozed in 1931 after a huge earthquake and it was all rebuilt Art Deco style The frothy sea attacking Simon

We walked down to the beach and I've never seen such ferocious sea. There was this white foam flying all round us which had just accumulated because the sea was so rough and had whipped it into froth. It was like a huge cappucino.

Marineland was our stop to see the poorly penguins. They rescue injured penguins, mainly the Little Blue species, and you can attend a penguin recovery workshop where they let you feed them and cuddle one. Cuddling a penguin is definitely on my list of top 5 things I've done since I've been away. They're just so cuddlable and cute. Don't smell great but you can't have everything.
