So Christmas and New Year was spent in Sydney. We met up with Nat and a few of her friends on Christmas Day and spent the day on Coogee beach. It's almost always overcast on Christmas Day but this one was great - not a cloud in sight. Although it meant we all got a bit burnt. We ended up back at Nat's playing drinking games, which I seemed to keep losing. Boxing Day is a bit of a blur.
It was a weird way to spend Christmas. Nice, but it didn't feel right with people singing songs about snow and reindeer when it was blazing hot.
My good friend Sarah came over for her hols at the end of December and it was great to see a friendly face. Quite surreal meeting her the other side of the world when I'm used to seeing her in Aylesbury, but it was great to catch up. Made me a little homesick but I'm not ready to leave yet.
New Year's Eve day was spent watching the Will & Grace-a-thon (always reminds me of Jay and our plans at Uni). The evening was a bit disappointing as per usual for me, and we ended up staying in and I fell asleep and woke up just before midnight. We got a great view of the fireworks from the balcony though, and I insisted on taking several photos, much to Simon's annoyance who thinks taking photos of fireworks is pointless cos they never come out. Mine did.
It was nice to spend a couple of weeks relaxing in Sydney. It started to feel quite homey and reminded me of London in the summer - everyone sunbathing in the parks at lunchtime. It had your token city oddballs too...
A man wading through the crowds on the beach on Christmas Day with a metal detector and happily telling Simon he'd just found $2.
A businessman in a park who was scanning the ground for ages (I assumed he was trying to find a place to sit down but it went on for too long).
An old man wearing a t-shirt with "Big Hot & Sweaty" emblazoned across the chest.
I did have a pet hate in Sydney though - the flies that try to devour your eyeballs when you walk down the street. They fly right at your face and when you bat them away they come back 3 times (always 3 times) before they leave and another one has a go.
Oh, as a side note for anyone who's interested, we saw Russell Crowe hanging out on his apartment balcony. I don't really like his movies so it wasn't that exciting.
