Saint Jeannet July 12th

An other beautiful day. It's a long weekend, so the town is very busy. Peter left just after 9 to go to the Café that was showing the All Blacks/Springboks game. He was in do doubt about who was going to win.
There is also a market on, so Gerda and I go shopping in the morning, planning to meet up with Peter after the game.   We both bought a nice white muslin top, Gerda finally found a nice small backpack. No luck with a watch though. Lots of watches at very reasonable prices. I found a lovely necklace the lady showed a sign saying 5 Euro, but it was 50, so I decided against it.
Then it was off to the pasta shop to find some Ravioli. Not cheap, but lots to choose from. Between 19 and 25 Euro per KG. Next we had to find some fresh Sage. First we had to figure out what is was in French, 'Sauge' and how to pronounce it. They did seem to understand in the market, but didn't have any. One lady assumed we were Italians. Finally at one of the stalls we were told it was the wrong season. Eventually we did find some dried leaves in a shop

Got to the café 5 minutes before the end, we were leading 25-20 then 28-20, AND then the Springboks got the lead, from the sound erupting in the café, there were more South Africans there than Kiwis The hill and St. Jeannet

We were planning to drive to Saint Jeannet, a small hill village for lunch. It is more or less straight north of Nice. It is just a small town, hardly any shops and only a few restaurants. We went into one where Gerda and Jan-Erik had been before. We all ordered the special, which was pork fillet stuffed with mozzarella and wrapped in bacon, served with both Eggplant and Courgette Caponata, both delicious.  We ordered the local (cheap) Rose, which turned out to be really nice. The view from the balcony we sat on was amazing. We were at about 400 meters, Baou de St Jeannet behind us was 800 meters and the we had the whole valley stretching out below us right down to the Mediterranean and Nice airport.

After lunch we walked around town, lots of very narrow streets and even narrower houses. Flags flying getting ready for Bastille day and the festival they were having in the town. We were amazed at the size of some of the trucks and cars that manage to negotiate the narrow roads, the trucks with confidence and the tourists very carefully. We were very pleased that we had parked at the edge of town. Before heading back down the hill we stopped at a small place for  coffee and a crepe. First time we came across a place that didn't make espressos but filter coffee. Mine however came in a very small cup and was very strong.

By the time we got home all but Jan-Erik were too tired to go to the beach. He should have been most tired, as he had been driving. The traffic was very heavy. As it turned out I'm glad I didn't go. Jan-Erik came back dripping wet, he had been lying on the beach, when a large wave came in and totally drenched him, his book etc. My camera would not have liked that.

For dinner we cooked the pasta, ricotta ravioli and butter sage sauce. Really nice.
