A slow start to the day, both feeling a bit seedy after last nights champagne. However, no sign of the cold until after breakfast. Perhaps I have to stop eating. It was about time we checked the sales, I really needed a new swimsuit, even knew what I wanted. We walked down to Galleries Lafayette, and found exactly what I wanted, except it wasn't in the sales. Never mind, did manage to get a 10% discount. Time to get back on the tour bus, but today we were planning to get on and off several times.
First stop Trocadero (west of the tower), we had seen lots of people there the previous day. Turned out to be a great place from which to view the Eiffel Tower. Peter was feeling peckish so got a filled bread stick. We then meandered down to the Eiffel tower, and walked around the base. I'm very happy to say that we weren't planning to go up in the tower, as we had done that before. We are trying to see and do new things. The queues to get up were very long. As a matter of fact just about everywhere there were long queues. Caught the bus again on the East side of the tower. This time we got off Pont d'Art, a pedestrian bridge. Weren't actually a lot of artists there. We walked across and past the book stalls to Pont Neuf. From there we walked to Notre Dame. By now I needed a coffee and a comfort stop. Most expensive cup ever (or should that be so far) 9 euros for 2 cups.
Very long queues to get into Notre Dam, last time we were here we walked straight in. Caught the bus again this time to the Opera, from where we walked home. Weather much improved, it's definitely summer.
One of the things that has surprised me about the Parisians and probably the French in General, is how many of them smoke, even very elegant ladies smoke walking down the streets.
Bought some lovely cherries, Peter thinks they will last till tomorrow, not likely.
