Yes, we were sufficiently impressed by towering Delicate Arch. And we watched with wonder as park visitors wandered like so many ants beneath the North and South Window. But it took our last trail test through Park Avenue, the only Arches trail none of us has tread, to elevate our emotions to the level of yesterday’s Canyonlands National Park high.
Park Avenue earned its name by reminding early explorers of the skyscraper forest of New York City. The trail runs through a corridor flanked by larger-than-life red sandstone monoliths, all unique in shape and size. The late afternoon sun reflected off a thousand different angles and curves. The trail wound around gargantuan boulders strewn in a dry riverbed, juxtaposed in crazy positions as if by some giant, prehistoric avant-garde sculptor. We have a new favorite to add to our list of amazing trails discovered on this trip!
Utah continues to amaze us. Each day brings a new surprise; each experience strains my travel lexicon. Utah has to be seen to be believed!
