I grabbed a shirt from my laundry bag and took a swat at him. My right shoulder has been gimpy and I didn't connect directly, and hurt my right shoulder in the process. The moth was unphased – rock solid. Scott came to the rescue and took a towel from the bathroom to swing at him. He wailed on him once or twice, but didn't hit squarely either and the moth took to flight, zooming back and forth across the room like some prehistoric flying bird - a mini-pterodactyl
He was thick and heavy – nothing dainty and no silky winged butterfly here. Scott hopped up on the bed and chased him around for a few minutes, ducking and weaving like Mohammed Ali as the moth zipped around the room like an errant balloon.
Finally after landing a killer blow in the curtain, and tearing it away from the rod in the process, Scott winged the moth. He was down, but now out, hiding on the floor under my excess pillows (we each have 5 in this room). I moved in for the kill with my sandal. Even with my left hand, with concentrated effort, I managed to land the knockout punch. We buried him with a couple kleenexes in the trash can, and retired again, dreaming about pterodactyls and our visit to ancient Mesa Verde today.
In spite of the midnight drama, we woke refreshed and had an outstanding day modifying our walk in Mesa Verde National Park. Hope you enjoy the photos!
