Carnaval 2013 was tons of fun. The photos are pretty crappy because I didn't want to take the better camera on the metro & through the streets of Rio, to & from the Sambodromo (location of the big Samba parade). I felt much more comfortable with a teeny tiny purse & pocket camera.

By 4am the girls were still dancing on the benches but I was ti-erd. I used the (legitimate) excuse that if we waited til 6am or so when the show was over to leave there would be 100,000 people trying to jam into the metro & we wouldn't get home until 8 or 9am. Jesse was NOT happy about missing the performance of the final school but we still didn't make it to bed until about 6:30 in the morning after the walk & metro ride.

If you go: We were in the most perfect sector, sector 7, directly across from the judges (with extra special acts just for them). I would recommend it. Regardless of what sector you're in, get there early & sit as far away from the stairs as possible. Close to the stairs gets too packed to move or see anything at all (it took forever to push through people to get Sophia to the bathroom at one point). You'll also be miserable hot with no chance of a breeze close to the sector entrance/stairs. We sat against the side railing where we could always see & had space to spread out a bit. And much appreciated breezes (geez, how can it still be so hot 4 o'clock in the morning?). We didn't bring snacks like others around us but REALLY wish we did. The food choices were really small (expensive) bottles of water, Coca Cola, beer, hotdogs, burgers, and Popsicles (these sold like wildfire).
