Well it was time to leave La Paz and head east and as we couldnīt stand the idea of a ridiculously long bus ride so we caught a plane to Santa Cruz.  The flight was very picturesque with great views of the snowcapped mountains that surround the town and we could also see many of the high crater lakes.  As Santa Cruz is just another big city we  joined up with a couple of other travellers and took a taxi to a little town called Samaipata.  It turned out to be a good choice and we spent the next 3 days here.

Our first night happened to be a saturday and after we decided to pop into a bar for 1 drink on our way home from dinner........usual story never just 1... it turned into a rather long but fun night.  The bar had a live band so we spent most of the night here with a side trip to a bar that was having its opening night.  Well we arrived late and by then it was bar without beer or alcohol of any description.  Mind you by that time it probably didnīt hurt us!!  The whole party as such was outside with people playing music and dancing, bit of a hippy party!  The music was coming from a band with a few randoms joining in and was quite good.  After the hippy party we returned to the other bar and stayed there far to long.....and the next day was pretty unproductive!.  We just wandered around the town and checked out the walks that were around to find something to do for the next day.

Our next day we headed out for hike.  The surrounding area is quite beautiful and the walk took us up past several waterfalls and into the surrounding mountains.  In all a great day with more amazing views, this is definitely a beautiful country with very varied landscapes.

Our final day in the town was a pretty unsuccessful one.  We went for a bit of a wander to check out the town, take a few photos and have a look in the markets.  The markets were quite small and we were told the next town had really good ones so we jumped in a taxi to head there.  We were getting an overnight bus to our next destination so basically we had the whole day.  The car ride there was a little hair raising with sections of the road missing half way down the mountain. looking over Samipata

mmmm something to look foward to when we headed out the same way on the bus!  We arrvied in the next town, canīt remember the name of it ( for a very good reason), checked out the crapola markets..... what a big fat waste of time and then checked our email and headed straight back to Samaipata.

After seeing several people miss night buses over the previous few days we made sure we were down at the stop rather early!!  We made it on and were in a for a very bumpy and rather smelly bus ride to Sucre.  Apparently the place to pee is on the bus tires so not really so surprising the bus stinks.  However even when a toilet is available after Janines report there is a very good reason people pee behind or on the bus!! The buses are actually surprisingly comportable with the seats leaning quite far back.  Alas we were not on the bus where the seats basically end up like beds. We arrived in Sucre early and hopped onto another squashy bus.......didnīt realise there were options until we had already paid.....to get to our destination of Potosi.
