Jul 19th - Arrived in Palermo late Saturday Jul 19th.   Took a cab to the center of town but in typical "Amazing Race" we to figure out where the hotel was, the address wasn't on anybody's map,so we decided to call Marjolain at the hostel and we brought the cab driver to the phone booth, here you go problem solved they could figure out themselves. We made it fine.

Jul 20th - Next day was spent walking around Palermo, visited the main sites, the highlight was lunch at a "non-tourist" cafe where they only had one item on the menu antipasti with spaghetti, fresh and low cost.
At the end of the afternoon, came back to our hostel to pick up our bags, driver could not find the place so Pierre had to do navigation in Palermo. We made it to the train and left for Cefalu on the northern coast of Sicily.

Jul 21th - Spent walking aroung Cefalu. Went to the beach. Visited the Duomo in the center of the old part of town.  Marie and Pierre hiked up the Cefalu rock: 1 hour up.  Great views.  At end of day picked up our cqr for the week.

Jul 22nd - Drove in the mountain towards Taormina on SS117 and SS120.  Outstanding drive, the only funny story is got stuck in a small village because of a temporary market in the streets, could not find our way out to continue, streets too small, too much pedestrians, scooters and cars, no signs for directions; total chaos.  Had to be escorted by the Polizia to the other side of the village, a few close calls with this big Alfa Romeo.

Started seeing the Etna volcano in mid-afternoon in the distance.  Troina was a beautiful village perched on a cliff, highest village in Sicily.  Stopped at a vineyard-winery at the base of the Etna.  Made it to Mazzeo at our BandB right on the beach.

Jul23rd - Drove to the Etna, took the cable car and the special bus to go higher then hiked with a guide.  Made it to 3300 meters (10000ft).  Beautiful expÍdition. Drove back to Mazzeo for a second night at our hostel.

Jul 24th - Drove to Pizza Armerina. Made it there early afternoon. Beatiful Roman ruins with liots of frescas.  Very hot day. Made it to our Agri tourismo called AgriCasale.  Wasn't busy. We had a villa for ourselves with a beautiful pool and the most amazing 7-course Italian dinner, al of that for 120 euros, a steal.

Jul 25th - Drove to Agrigento on the southern coast of Sicily.  We visited there the most beautiful, and best preserved Roman ruins outside of Rome.  Made it back to Palermo to drop the car. Cab to the ferry. Up on the Ferry and left Port of Palermo by 8PM that night.  Found our nice small cabin with 4 beds. Slept well and woke up at 7AM entering the port of Tunis on the other side of the Meditterean.  Oh...what a change of atmosphere.

On to Tunisia....
